Searching for our next Executive Director
Founded in 1949, Camp Mitchell seeks to restore all people to unity with God and each other through work, worship, and play. Today, Camp Mitchell is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and a ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Arkansas. Camp Mitchell hosts group events, large and small retreats, family gatherings, weddings, and a summer camp which takes place from June through August. Camp Mitchell serves children, youth, adults, families, and congregations by providing welcoming and ecumenical year-round opportunities to gather for spiritual and baptismal formation, fellowship, study, reflection, and renewal, and, by virtue of the Great Commission, sending out all who gather enriched and excited about sharing God’s love.
Camp Mitchell is at an exciting point in its history. Summer camp has grown, resulting in the addition of new sessions for Summer 2026. The Camp has undergone major capital improvements in 2025 and 2026. The Camp has a talented and dedicated staff. And now, the Board of Directors is laying the groundwork for a major capital campaign. Camp Mitchell is excited to partner with a new Executive Director to enter into this next season of ministry.
Responsibilities
“The Executive Director is a leader of Camp Mitchell’s staff, a manager of Camp Mitchell’s facilities, and attentive to the needs of all of Camp Mitchell’s clientele. The Executive Director leads the staff, serves the clients, reports to the Board, and is responsible for all aspects of the operation of Camp Michell and oversees the property within the boundaries of Camp Mitchell. The Executive Director plans, directs, and executes those activities deemed necessary to achieve the goals and objectives approved by the Board of Directors.”

Specific responsibilities include:
Strategic Leadership and Governance
Together with the Board of Directors, sets the future vision and direction for Camp Mitchell by working creatively, collaboratively, and strategically with the Board of Directors, staff, and other stakeholders
Serves as an ex officio member of the Board of Directors and all Board committees with voice but no vote
Reports directly to the Board of Directors, including regular attendance at and reports to all Board of Directors meetings
Administration and Operations
Manages the day-to-day operations of Camp Mitchell, and assumes all responsibilities for hiring and supervising staff, including mentoring, disciplining, and terminating, in communication with the chair of the Board of Directors
Oversees all camps and programs, including hiring staff and delegating responsibilities to execute all camps and programs, as needed
Supervises 3 year-round, full-time staff; 5 year-round, part-time staff; and seasonal summer camp staff
Financial and Property Management
Maintains transparent oversight of Camp Mitchell’s budget and financial operations and works to ensure the viability and financial stability of the organization and its ministries
Develops a plan to oversee the maintenance, quality, and use of all physical assets, including buildings, equipment, and all recreation areas
Advancement and External Relations
Oversees and engages in fundraising efforts, including both short-term and long-term fundraising
Develops and oversees the implementation of marketing strategies for the ongoing growth of Camp Mitchell and its camps and programs
Maintains Camp Mitchell’s identity as an Episcopal camp and conference center while also welcoming guests and stakeholders of non-Episcopal backgrounds
Fosters collaborative relationships with the Board of Directors, staff, guests, and other supporters of the organization, including the Bishop of Arkansas (who is an ex officio member of the Board), diocesan staff, and congregational leaders throughout the Episcopal Diocese of Arkansas, as directed by the Board of Directors
Safety and Compliance
Works to ensure the safety, comfort, and satisfaction of all staff and guests, including ensuring that all staff requirements for “Safeguarding God’s People” are met
Ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and contractual obligations
Experience in leading a complex organization
Experience in hospitality services, preferably within a camp/conference center environment
Experience leading and managing staff in a variety of roles
Experience with fundraising and prior success in identifying, engaging, and nurturing donors while overseeing all fundraising efforts
Experience working collaboratively in decision-making with multiple stakeholders

Skills and Abilities
The Executive Director is not required to reside at Camp Mitchell, but is expected to work on campus at least three full business days each week. The position is full-time, including additional evening and weekend hours as needed to support Camp Mitchell’s programs and events. The weekly schedule will vary based on program demands. Occasional travel is expected for promotion, development, and collaboration with other camp and conference ministries.
Schedule and Work Environment
The Executive Director must be able to perform the essential functions of a residential camp and conference center environment, including working outdoors, walking uneven terrain, standing for extended periods, and occasionally lifting or carrying items up to approximately 40 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.

$60,000 – $70,000 salary
