Somewhere Over Family Camps:

Spring Weekend - April 12-14th

Summer Weekend - June 28-30th

Camp Mitchell is committed to being an open, safe, brave, and affirming space for all people. All of our programming is designed to be welcoming and affirming, and we strive to create a safe space in all that we do. We understand the value and need for a camp experience specifically for members of the LGBTQIA+ community and their loved ones. Somewhere Over Camp is for LGBTQIA+ folks, led by LGBTQIA+ folks (youth, adult individuals, couples, and families.) We welcome your family, chosen and of origin, whom ever they might be. The only requirement is that children and youth must attend with an adult.

Are you interested in supporting Somewhere Over Camp? We will be looking for LGBTQIA+ leadership staff, CITs, and volunteers in addition to financial supporters and in-kind donors. If you would like to get involved, please reach out to andy@campmitchell.org for more information.

Dick Johnston Children’s Camp

DJCC is a week-long summer camp experience for children ages 8-12 who have/had an incarcerated parent or family member. Children from all over the state of Arkansas are invited to participate, for free. This camp is a powerful experience for kids to have fun, learn about themselves, spend time in Creation, meet friends, and try new things. Many participants do not have other opportunities to attend summer camp programs. Dick Johnston Children’s Camp is a chance for kids to just be kids.

Campers registering for Dick Johnston Children’s Camp (DJCC), or graduates of DJCC and Angel Tree campers registering for older youth sessions at Camp Mitchell,  will pay a $20 refundable deposit to register.  This deposit will be returned when the camper arrives to their camp session this summer.   The remainder of the $600 registration fee will be paid by Angel Tree or DJCC.

Please contact Kristi Palmer 501-940-1591 or kristipalmer2016@gmail.com if you’d like to receive information about 2024 DJCC programming.

ROBERT R. BROWN CAMP

Robert R. Brown Summer Camp is a week-long (Sunday-Thursday) summer camp experience for adults ages 18+ with mental and physical disabilities. We also have weekend camp and caregiver retreat opportunities available throughout the year.

RRB Winter Weekend Camp and the Sam Leder Caregiver Retreat will take place on December 13-15, 2024. These are separate retreats. You do not have to have a current camper to attend the caregiver retreat. For more information please reach out to andy@campmitchell.org. Registration for these retreats will open later on in the year.

Registration information for Celebration Camp will be announced in late spring 2024.

Celebration Camp is a new camp session at Camp Mitchell hosted by the Evergreen Folk and Forest Community. This will be a week-long nature-based, creative arts, and leadership camp celebrating diversity, inclusion, and what it means to truly honor folks for who they are, not what society expects them to be! There will be a heavy emphasis on getting in touch with what makes us special as individuals and as a world community. We believe by allowing this age group to come together to CREATE, find connection in the natural world, and build self and community care competency through the lens of trauma informed skill building, that stronger and more confident young people will emerge. If you have any interest in a leadership position at this camp, it will be staffed by our in-house Camp Mitchell staff, but we also hope to bring in a diverse crew of folks hoping to share their knowledge and skills sets with a younger generation. For more information, please email Larnie@campmitchell.org

Summer Staff, CIT Staff,

Summer Adult Volunteers

2024 Summer Staff

Camp Mitchell strives to provide a safe, affirming, team oriented environment with a special emphasis on wellness. We hope to create an environment where not only our campers can thrive, but our staff can too! We lean on each other when times get tough and we lift each other up in times of celebration at Camp Mitchell.

Summer Staff is an amazing opportunity to give back to camp in more ways than just connecting with our campers. It is also about learning to work together as a team of young people. Camp Mitchell hopes to be a place that empowers and celebrates our staff. We believe in order for a staff to be strongest it must be made up of all kinds of folks. We are looking for a diverse and dynamic staff excited to learn, grow, and help Camp Mitchell thrive this summer.

Counselor-In-Training Program

If you are having trouble navigating the CIT application process please email larnie@campmitchell.org

Camp Mitchell offers a training program for teenagers hoping to serve on staff once they are over 19 - or simply looking to spend bonus weeks at camp in a leadership role building skills for the future and making an impact on the campers we serve.

All CIT Staff must be at least 15 years old by June of the summer camp season. If you served on the CIT staff in a previous summer, it does not guarantee you a spot on the CIT staff the following summer. All applicants are required to go through the same application process and if chosen to be a CIT, you must attend one of our CIT training opportunities in its entirety.

Adult Summer Volunteer Program (Week long, Overnight, and Daytime volunteer opportunities)

Traditionally the only volunteer staff members we seek out are our teenage volunteers in our CIT program and our Session Staff Teams. This summer we will be organizing our volunteer opportunities at Camp Mitchell a little differently. We will be looking for extra support on our Spiritual Formation Team (what will feel most similar to the traditional week-long Session Staff experience), Music team (extra support throughout the week and/or for our closing service), but there will also be opportunities to sign up for other types of volunteering that does not require an overnight or week-long stay. It all just depends on how you want to give back to camp!

If you are looking to give back/enjoy camp, but aren't ready/don't want to commit to a full summer on staff this is the application for you! Staff or Camper Alumni?? We looking at you! Camp misses you! And this mountain is better with you on it. New to Camp Mitchell? We wanna know you and this mountain is better with you on it too!
