Summer Camp Staff 2017
Take a moment to meet the staff who led Camp Mitchell's Summer Camp Program this past year.
Assistant summer staff coordinator
Hi my name is Hannah Tackett! I am currently a junior at Hendrix College. I am an Environmental Studies and Psychology double major and play volleyball for Hendrix, as well! I have been coming to Camp Mitchell since I was in seventh grade and always enjoy coming back. I love being outdoors, wearing Chacos, and having fun so it’s safe to say I am really looking forward to being the Assistant Summer Staff Coordinator this summer.
I will be a junior at Barnard College in New York, majoring in Environmental Policy and Human Rights. This will be my second summer working as the Sustainability Coordinator (in addition to countless summers spent as a camper and a counselor in training). I work at Harlem Grown, an urban farm in Manhattan that teaches Harlem youth about nutrition and sustainability. I love vegetables, sharks, and those chocolate oranges they sell around winter holidays and I’m very excited to spend the summer playing in the dirt and the sun.
Hi! My name is Bekah Smith. I am currently a sophomore at Henderson State University, majoring in Special Education with a focus on art therapy. This will be my second summer serving as Camp Mitchell’s media coordinator. I love photography, watching too much Bob’s Burgers, and being around wonderful people. I am so excited to spend another summer on the mountain with all the fantastic staff and campers. Camp Mitchell has a very special place in my heart, and I love being able to capture my love and show others why Camp Mitchell is such a great place.
Anthony Becerra was born on April 8, 1996 in Mesquite, Texas. From a young age he has always been interested in the arts. Ranging from theater to the musical arts, he has always been most interested in these topics. He will do his best to make sure this summer is fun filled.
I am a student at Hendrix College, studying anthropology and English. Camp Mitchell is my home away from home. I've been coming here since I was in the sixth grade and I'm honestly just astonished no-one is tired of me yet. I Like to play ultimate frisbee and disc golf, I like to sing terribly and loudly, and I like to bother my parents with excessive affection. I spend the majority of my time sunburned or hungry, and frequently both. I have two incredible siblings who love Camp Mitchell as well.
Hi, I’m Ben Bridgforth! I’m eighteen years old and was born and raised in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Right now, I live in St. Louis, Missouri where I study Philosophy and Psychology at Washington University. I play for the WashU Ultimate Team, but I can still remember first learning to throw a disc at Camp Mitchell. I also play the guitar and love to sing. When I can, I like to spend my time outdoors by camping, hiking, fishing, and stargazing. Besides that, I like to spend my time reading and chilling out. Growing up, I went to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Fayetteville, and every year I counted down the days until camp. In high school, I volunteered as a CIT for three summers, and loved it too much to stay away. I also played on the tennis team and the Ultimate team, and worked as a delivery driver at Jimmy John’s. And yes, I was freaky fast. Most importantly, I love spending time at Camp Mitchell. A lot of my favorite memories were made at camp, and I work my hardest so that the campers can one day say the same.
I am from Little Rock, Arkansas, and I have been going to Camp Mitchell since my family moved here when I was in the 4th grade. Now, I split my time between Little Rock and New Haven, Connecticut, where I am a junior at Yale University majoring in Religious Studies with a concentration in literature. I love to read and write, and find religion to be one of the most interesting and meaningful ways to connect with people and learn about them and the world. After college, I hope to teach middle or high school, probably English. I also love to play music, usually folk and rock, depending on whether or not I have an outlet and an amp for my guitar. Most of the rest of my spare time is taken up with other instruments, from banjo to harmonica, and in any given picture, I'm the one with my mouth open and long, hippie hair. One of my favorite things in the world is standing in the chapel at Camp Mitchell, singing myself hoarse with a roomful of campers and counselors who are just as excited as I am to be on top of the mountain.
I’m from Little Rock, Arkansas, and I attend church at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in downtown Little Rock. I attended Camp Mitchell as a camper for several years, and I was a counselor in training for the past three summers at Camp Mitchell. I recently completed my freshman year at the University of Tulsa. I plan on graduating with a major in Accounting and a minor in Spanish. In my free time, I enjoy reading and hanging out with my friends. I love traveling, and I hope to have visited all of the states and many foreign countries before I die. I’m looking forward to spending another great summer up on Mount Petit Jean!
As I’m entering my sophomore year at Kansas City Art Institute I anticipate majoring in either fibers or painting. Eventually, I want to become a high school art teacher, because without my art classes throughout high school I wouldn't be who I am or where I am today. Art has had such a profound influence on my life and I truly couldn't imagine myself doing anything different. Being a camp counselor has truly been a dream of mine since I was a primary camper. Camp has been a constant in my life as everything else has changed. I am so excited to give back to the place that has always given me so much and be able to give campers the best weeks of their lives!
Hi, my name is Cameron Haag and I am from Long Beach, MS! I am currently a sophomore at Mississippi State University. Throughout high school and college, I have strived to find ways to help foster a sense of Godliness in the people that I meet by showing compassion and having a loving and accepting nature. I have always had a passion for helping others, especially children, so that is why I have decided to pursue a career in Education. I have been a camp counselor at multiple camps. It brings me great joy to invest in the campers and help them grow not only as people but also in their faith. I enjoy encouraging others and pushing them to be their best in whatever they are doing, particularly when they are trying something new. Two words I would use to describe myself as are: loud and energetic. I look forward to the opportunity to spend the summer doing what God has called me to do!
Hi I’m Sophia Warriner and I’m from Conway, AR. I attend Hendrix College and I am a neuroscience major. In my spare time I enjoy going hiking, dancing, traveling, and photography. I was a camper at Camp Mitchell for years, and I absolutely cannot wait to spend my summer here with the great staff and fun campers!
